DESCRIPTION:Skye is privileged to share its coastline with a wonderful marine mammal population\, but unfortunately entanglements and strandings of these amazing animals are not unknown.In this slideshow talk\, locals Zoe Scott-Green and Anthony Rigell will shed some light on the reasons behind such standings and the tools now being used to help monitor and predict them. \nZoe is a researcher working on projects concerned with reducing marine entanglement and improving sustainable fishing practices. Zoe will present the results of her research on how environmental variables might help in forecasting strandings in common dolphins\, pulling from twenty years of Scottish Marine Mammal Stranding Scheme (SMASS) and the National Oceanography Centre data. \nAnthony is a local drone operator who uses his skills to assist with marine mammal standings and entanglements. Alan will be sharing stories and videos from such events and how a birds eye view can offer insight on how to change the outcomes for these animals. \nRefreshments provided. The concert will be free to attend for children and we will be taking donations at the door to raise as much money as possible. \nThe theme of the concert will be ‘Scotland meets Holland’. Together with Alison McGillivray\, there will be musicians from Holland: soprano Louise Jones\, countertenor Rob Petri (my son) and organist Gerard Leegwater. \nBefore producing classical and baroque music television programmes I was a primary school teacher and\, as a music lover\, I have always believed that music education is essential for children\, offering considerable cognitive\, emotional and social benefits\, as well as a great deal of enjoyment! One of the reasons for organising this concert is that my son Rob started singing in the North Holland Boys Choir when he was just 8 years old and\, from when he was 10\, he sung the soprano solos in Bach and Handel works. Now at age 50 he is one of the soloists in this concert. \nThe musicians will be going into the school to sing\, play and talk about some of the music with the pupils during the week of the concert.  \nWe are very fortunate that all the artists are giving their time free of charge and An Crùbh is also supporting the concert by providing the location and therefore all the proceeds from this concert will go towards music education at Bun-Sgoil Shlèite. \nWe would really appreciate your support by attending the concert and making a donation if you you are able.  \nKind regards\, \n​\nHans Petri and Alison McGillivray​

DESCRIPTION:Join us as we screen Handel’s Giulio Cesare (Julius Caesar) on Friday\, 10th April. This is a fundraising effort to support our live screening/broadcast project. \nScottish Director David McVicar’s acclaimed production of Giulio Cesare at Glyndebourne combines serious insight with entertainment\, bringing Handel’s masterpiece to life in a powerful\, convincing and highly intelligent way. The outstanding singing of the all-star cast\, led by a superb Sarah Connolly\, and the vivid playing of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under the energising direction of William Christie reveal the colour and dramatic character of Handel’s exquisite music. Subtitles in English. \nAs our first test screening event using the recently installed projector in An Crùbh\, this opera evening will be by donation on entry. Funds raised will support our live screening/broadcast project.
