The event will explore the themes of class solidarity and migration. \nFilms information \nTHE MAGNOLIA GROWS AT NIGHT\, dir. Fransisca Angela\, Netherlands (11m) – presented in multiple languages (often incorporating English\, Dutch\, and Indonesian) with English subtitles \nThis documentary and experimental short film tracks the generations-long relationship between the director’s Chinese-Indonesian grandmother and a Dutch missionary nun. After her grandmother’s passing\, Angela traced a convent in Maastricht\, Netherlands\, where a community of Indonesian nuns tenderly care for elderly Dutch nuns\, all under the shadow of a large\, symbolic magnolia tree. \nTHE OLD OAK\, dir. Ken Loach\, Britain (113m) – English with English subtitles \nThe Old Oak is the last pub standing in a once thriving mining village in northern England\, a gathering space for a community that has fallen on hard times. There is growing anger\, resentment\, and a lack of hope among the residents\, but the pub and its proprietor TJ are a fond presence to their customers. When a group of Syrian refugees move into the floundering village\, a decisive rift fueled by prejudices develops between the community and its newest inhabitants. The formation of an unexpected friendship between TJ and a young Syrian woman named Yara opens up new possibilities for the divided village in this deeply moving drama about loss\, fear\, and the difficulty of finding hope.

Featuring Rose Logan (fiddle\, SCO)\, Kristina Leesik (fiddle\, SE)\, Lea Søndergaard Larsen (bodhrán\, DK)\, Dan Brown (piano\, accordion\, tenor guitar\, ENG)\, and Chris Amer (guitar\, SCO)\, the band create a contemporary Nordic soundscape through original compositions and fresh takes on traditional tunes. \nWinners of the Danny Kyle Open Stage in 2023\, Tern have since performed across Scotland and Scandinavia and launched their debut album\, Flyway\, at Celtic Connections 2025. The 2026 tour features a diverse lineup of the best Scottish-made short films that showcase the country’s wild places and adventurous spirit. This is a fundraising effort to support our live screening/broadcast project. \nScottish Director David McVicar’s acclaimed production of Giulio Cesare at Glyndebourne combines serious insight with entertainment\, bringing Handel’s masterpiece to life in a powerful\, convincing and highly intelligent way. The outstanding singing of the all-star cast\, led by a superb Sarah Connolly\, and the vivid playing of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under the energising direction of William Christie reveal the colour and dramatic character of Handel’s exquisite music. Subtitles in English. \nAs our first test screening event using the recently installed projector in An Crùbh\, this opera evening will be by donation on entry. Funds raised will support our live screening/broadcast project.
